the History of Calvary san diego

Calvary SD has existed, in various forms and facilities, for God’s glory since 1985. Located at our current location since 2005, we look forward to many more decades of fruitful work for the gospel. Current lead pastor, Phil Metzger, has been here since January, 2018.

Founding pastor Bryan Newberry continues to serve the Lord through his ministry Words of Encouragement

Bible

We believe in all the fundamental doctrines of orthodox evangelical Christianity. We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible Word of God.

church

We believe the church is the worldwide body of Christ. It is comprised of all believers who have been united through the sacrifice of Jesus. God has also called these believers to be part of a local church family.

Salvation

We believe that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God, destined to spend eternity with the Lord.

Trinity

We believe in one God who is eternally existent in three separate persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Father
We believe that God the Father is the personal, transcendent, and sovereign Creator of all things.

Jesus
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us.

Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit available to every believer. This immersion into Spirit-led living provides the Christian with the power to live a fruitful, victorious life, and boldness in sharing the good news with others. He also gives us spiritual gifts.
